New Gorton 9J mill - Practical Machinist
New Gorton 9J mill. Just picked up a Gorton 9J, Have a question, not sure if I should place question in Kearney Trecker, group or not, my mill is older than when Kearney Trecker purchased Gorton. Anyway, I am trying to remove the front pulley, have removed all above pulley hardware, notched nut, bolts, Draw bar etc. Cannot remove the pulley.

9-J Vertical Mill As of 1950, the 9-J was the largest mill, with a cross travel of 12", longitudinal travel of 24", vertical capacity of 17 1/2", and a ram with travel up to 12 1/4". It came with a No. 10 B & S spindle, but could alternatively be fitted with a No. 4 Morse or No. 40 American Standard.

The Gorton milling machines were very well built and in my opinion, head and shoulders over a Bridgeport. If you tuck it into a corner, it will take up minimal floor space. You can always mount it on wheels and then it can be rolled around the garage or shop keeping it out of the way until needed.
